Security Basics  - Control Panel

The Control Panel is the hub of the security system. The unit is installed in a secure location within your home and consists of an electronic circuit board, communication dialer, AC power transformer and 12 V backup battery.

The type of control panel purchased defines how many and what type of devices can be tied into the security system.

The type of control panels most commonly used at Telsco are the FA148 and FA168.  Both allow for a combination of hard wired and wireless devices to be used throughout your home.

The FA148 comes standard with:

Keypad

The keypad allows the homeowner to use the security system.  This is where you will turn on and off your system as well as view any alarm and trouble conditions.

Generally we install one keypad at the major door to your home.  We also recommend an additional unit be installed in the master bedroom which provides control during the night.

At Telsco we have a number of different keypads available, the FA215, FA260 and FA560 are our most common choices.

All of our keypads use plain English, there are no confusing symbols or blinking lights.  They are all backlit to provide for ease of use during the night.

Remote

A security system remote control is called a key fob.  This wireless device much like a garage door opener, can be used to turn the security system on and off from outside the home.

Wireless Devices

The option of adding wireless devices to your First Alert security system allows us to maximize your security protection without changing the esthetic appeal of your decor.

Devices can be mounted throughout your home in locations where running a wire may not be possible.

There are a variety of dependable motion detectors, contacts, glassbreak and smoke detectors available to complement your system.
